Videoke King -- Original Motion Picture Soundtrack features a number of Philippine singing artists, including the two stars of the movie itself, female actress Pops Fernandez, also one of the country's best-known singers, and lead male star Robin Padilla, not known for his singing, but for his romantic and action film star status. "Kumusta Ka" (How Are You), is performed by boy band D'Klasmeyts, who don't exhibit much singing prowess on this average, middle-of-the-road song (at least it has a spirited backbeat, though). Pops Fernandez and Robin Padilla also perform this song at a slower pace as a duet, and it sounds better in their version, even though Robin Padilla doesn't have much experience as a singer. The album is dominated by easy listening love songs, including, "Laging Tapat" (Always Truthful), by female artist Jolina Magdangal and "Nanghihinayang" (Regrets of a Lost Opportunity), by boy band Jeremiah; both of these well-known songs were released on earlier albums. The album's best and most adventurous song is "Laklak" (Drinking), a song first made famous in the mid-'90s by rock band Teeth. This new version is performed by male singer Dong Abay and rap band Gloc 9, and is given a hard-edged reading here, combining a metal ambience that features the original melody, and a new, rambunctious rap that explores unknown territory. ~ David Gonzales, Rovi
